Images On Our Website

We are often asked by Customers and other Photographers, "Where did you get the images on your website?"

The answer is: Every single image you see on our website, our advertising material, flyers, brochures, studio walls, albums and displays have been taken by us for our Customers. With the exception of just three people [Model Portfolios] everyone else is a member of the public. The same applies to the people featured on our gallery of images and movies.

We do not employ Models for our images, every single person featured in an image is a paying Customer like yourselves. We trust that you can see the high standard of our work is not just in the images you see on display but in every single image we create for our customers, no gimmicks, no stock library images, no 'this was taken in our Glasgow studio by someone you will never meet or see'.

EVERY IMAGE YOU SEE WAS TAKEN BY US FOR OUR CUSTOMERS IN OUR STUDIO!

There is no need for registration or to claim copyright in some way. Protection is automatic at the point of creation. Both published and unpublished works are protected by copyright.

Copyright is normally owned by the creator(s) of the work in this case the Photographer. However, as all our Photographers are employed by stormstudios be it full time, part time or engaged as freelancers we hold Copyright.

Copyright is a property right and can be sold or transferred to others. Photographers who capture images both professionals or members of the public hold the copy right the images/photograph.

Stormstudios has never relinquished the copyrights to any images, they have however been licensed out to both businesses and individuals this is standard practice in the Photographic Industry.

Copyright is regulated by law, the main statute in the UK being the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988 (CDPA). This was amended in October 2003 by the Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003 which incorporated into UK law the changes required by the EU Copyright Directive.

Using Images

We are asked from time to time about the usage of images featuring families, babies, kids, models and pets.  Some of our Customers have told us they have had photographs taken elsewhere in the past and walked past several months later to see their images on display in the Photography Studios windows.

The question is always the same one, "Can they do that without asking?"

Unfortunately the answer if yes they can.  However, it cost nothing to ask someone for permission to use their image.

Our policy is simple, when you come to collect your order form us or we are delivering it to your home or business you are required to sign and date an order completion form to acknowledge you have received your goods to your 100% satisfaction.

The lower part of the form explains that from time to time we update the images in our studio, on our mobile sales and marketing posters, pull up displays and on our website.  It clearly requires the Customer to sign and date the section giving us permission to use the images at our discretion.

It also states that by signing it does not mean we will use them, just if we ever decide to use them the Customers had no objections.  Some Customer do object and prefer not to have their family or partner all over the place, in these circumstances the images are deleted from our server once the cut off date has been and gone.

Do we get it right every time?  the answer is no we do not.  We have had Customers who have contacted us and been shocked and annoyed we had been using their images in our studio and  or the website and asked/told us to remove them.

This we do and apologies for the distress it may have caused, everyone to their own we say.

If you find that we are using an image on our website or in print and you are not comfortable or happy about it and we will correct the situation immediately. Where an image(s) has been printed in our leaflets, flyers or booklets we will ensure it is not used again in the future, the leaflets, flyers or booklets already in use will be used so as to avoid wasting money and resources. If however, someone is completely outraged they will be withdrawn.

The chances are that we already know which Customers will not want their images being used and the one who do not mind.

After all we get to know you and your family during our dealings with you and by the end know of what you like and dislike.

What is a Model Portfolio or a Model Book?

Firstly a Portfolio or Book are one of the same thing, some prefer to call it a Portfolio others prefer Book.

At stormstudios we call it a Model Portfolio whether it be for a Professional purpose or something you just want for yourself.

Below is an explanation of a Professional Portfolio and a Portfolio just for fun.

Why do you need a Model Portfolio?

Firstly, you do not need one unless you are looking to win assignments and make a living form Modelling as an independent Model or Freelancer Model.

Alternatively, you might just want one for the hell of it, something you have always wanted to do, something you know will be amazing fun.

Or you are thinking about modelling and want to explore ‘How To Become A Model’.  Whatever the reason is you will be pleased to know stormstudios will provide you with a photo shoot to suite.

Professional Portfolios

If you are already modelling most of this is not relevant as you will already have your portfolio in place, if on the other hand you are looking to getting in to this industry please read on.

Your Model Portfolio is your passport to a career in Modelling. It will not guarantee success but it will have an impact on the type of work you will be offered.

A good portfolio must consist of a high quality head shot, profile shot, and full length shot. Sounds easy but you will be surprised at the difference between ‘okay’ and great.

Unless you know about photography you are unlikely to know the different between ‘okay’ and perfect.  Many elements will make a shot brilliant, you posing in front of the camera is all very well but unless you are lit correctly, posed and directed for the right expression then you may as well take the photo on your camera phone.

Talking of camera phones, any professional Modeling Agency will accept snap shots, you DO NOT have to have professional images. In fact you are advised not to submit professional images by the top agencies such as: Storm Model

Going to a Professional Photographer should ensure that all the elements are addressed during your photo shoot, however we see regularly Model Portfolios which are more damaging than flattering so chose your Photographer carefully.
