Food For Thought Have you ever wondered why one photographer charges more than another? Within this article, Team Storm will explain the variety of photography set ups available to you and outline the credentials to ensure you are receiving the most for your money and can take comfort in the knowledge that your photo shoot will commence in the safest and most enjoyable environment. Studio Types There are several types of photography studios: HOME STUDIO HOME STUDIOS are often set up in a converted garage, spare bedroom or outdoor space created for a studio set-up. The equipment used in a home studio can range from professional to poor standards and this often reflects in the quality of the photographs produced. In most cases Home Studios are professionally registered businesses, but unfortunately it is becoming increasingly common for Home Studios to operate outside legislation. As a customer, you should be aware that if the photographer you choose is not part of a registered business you have no protection if something goes wrong! PORTABLE HOME STUDIOS PORTABLE HOME STUDIOS are similar to a Home Studio set up, but in this instance a photographer conducts the shoot from your home. The shoot is usually located in the living room and constructed using portable lighting equipment that is placed on stands in front of a plain backdrop to disguise furniture and walls. As with Home Studio set-ups, the standard of the equipment can vary. HIGH STREET STUDIO HIGH STREET STUDIOS are the most commonly known type of studio business. The premises are normally in a town location, usually in a retail building. Due to the high costs of running a small business there recently been a dramatic decline in High Street Studios. Unlike many amateur photography studios, high street studios are set up as a business and will have all of the necessary insurance and Health & Safety policies as required by law. These costs are often recouped in the price of prints after the shoot has taken place. STUDIO FACILITIES STUDIO FACILITIES operate as a business, offering a range of services and products to professional photographers under one roof. The Photography Centre, located in Royal Leamington Spa, is a purpose built photographic studio facility complete with a range of studios to chose from, a coffee shop, in-house hair salon, make up studio and training centre. These facilities are open for professional hire on an hourly, half day or full day basis from 9:00am to 9:00 pm 7 days a week. The centre boasts a 100sq/ft white infinity studio space with an overhead gantry rail system to keep all cables and lighting rigs away from the floor space. In addition to the main studio spaces, the centre also offers a number of smaller, more intimate studio spaces for shoots that demand more texture and depth. Another space has been reserved for set builds in which the photographer requires an entire room and scene as part of a commercial photo shoot, for example a kitchen set. The Photography Centre offers a spacious reception area, boasting a large coffee shop serving a selection of hot and cold beverages and light refreshments to customers. The centre even has its own Hollywood-themed Make-Up Studio and full-blown Hair Studio coming very soon! If that wasn’t enough, the first floor of the centre provides an ideal setting for various training courses and workshops on a wide range of subjects relating to photography and more. A big benefit of this business model is the low costs incurred by professional photographers. No longer are photographers required to work from home, producing valuable space and reducing the need to work around other inevitable obstacles. The Photography Centre invests in the latest equipment, therefore reducing the amount of capital required to operate a professional photography business. Furthermore, the professional set up is constructed to deal with all aspects of customer service on behalf of the photographer at little cost. All these savings are reflected in the price the photographer charges you, the customer. As this is the perfect solution for us as a business, we have now signed up to working from The Photography Centre. This allows us to make huge savings on our running costs without compromising on our facilities, service or products. We hope that you found this article informative and inspiring. We are confident that when you compare the standard of our work with our competitors you will see that the prices will reflect in producing the very best quality photos possible.
